15ct Gold, Shield shape, Signet ring. A cast, shield shape, signet ring from the Edwardian period with a full, 15ct gold, hallmark. Pieces with full and clear hallmarks are rapidly becoming collectors items due to the amount of jewellery lost to being scrapped, but it's a real bonus when it's a nice piece of wearable jewellery. The head of this ring measures approximately 22 mm x 21.5 mm and the shank tapers down to approximately 3.5 mm at the back. The ring measures as a size S (9 1/4 US). Hallmarks for A.G.G. (I will research this when I have the time), Birmingham, 15ct gold, 1904-05 (older Birmingham date letters changed part way through the year). Condition is pretty good, there is an obvious sizing join near one shoulder where a rose gold solder has been used and the colour is slightly different, but it is a good join. There is a little porosity to the head of the ring, which is often the case for castings of this period as they didn't have the high tech vacuum casting systems of today. Pretty good for an antique.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically. Thank you for looking and please have a look around the other items in my shop.
