Split Pearl and Diamond pendant.
This piece was converted from a brooch that had been badly damaged, add to that an incompetent repair and you have a brooch that had seen it's last days, until got hold of it.
This was originally a early to mid Victorian piece, but can no longer be called that. The brooch was cut, a piece taken from the side and laser welded to the top to close an open end and reinforce where a chain would eventually go through. A Diamond was transferred from the broken piece and the settings adjusted a little.
It is made from 15ct gold and silver as this was made before white gold alloys were available and way before Platinum was regarded enough for use in jewellery. There is no hallmark, but I have thoroughly tested it to make sure. It's set with 4, very bright, split pearls. The pearls that came from the other part of the brooch were natural, so it's fair to assume these are also. There are also 6 small, Rose cut, Diamonds to add a little twinkle. The setting is old and has not been rebuilt, so it must be worn with care.
The pendant measures approximately 25 mm (1") long and 3.5 mm (1/8") wide. This is supplied on a 9ct gold trace chain, 16 inches in length.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically.
