A nice Sterling silver thimble in Sterling Silver, size 13, too small for my banana fingers.
Hallmarked in Birmingham, 1929, Arthur Whiting.
It measures approximately 18.5 mm high and just under 14mm average diameter at the opening. It is a little off round as you can see in the pictures, but I have learnt there is not much point in re-shaping them as they are usually tweaked for the next user. The decoration is a nice floral pattern and there are no holes in the top.
I found the following information on the internet, but cannot guarantee it is authentic.
Birmingham 1929 Arthur Witting of a wholesaler in Hatton Garden, London this mark was only active between 1929-1931. The thimbles were believed to be made by Henry Griffith & Son of Leamington Spa. These thimbles were made in a few different designs and are an important part of social history. "ELECTION" was stamped on the rim of these pieces in reference to the "Flapper Election" where the suffragette movement won the right to vote.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically.
Thank you for looking and please have a look around the other items in my shop.
