A hand carved shell cameo brooch of Lord Byron mounted in 9ct gold.
The mount is of a more unusual, hand engraved design. The Cameo is very finely carved and depicts a portrait of Lord Byron, the influential British Poet and Politician, who is still much loved today.
The Brooch measures approximately 52mm x 44mm (2" x 1 3/4") overall with the cameo measuring approximately 45mm x 36mm (1 3/4" x 1 1/2"). There are no visible cracks to the shell which is great on a Cameo of this age. The border is nicely hand engraved.
The metal is marked WHW Ltd for the Birmingham Goldsmiths, William H Wilmot Ltd, 9ct gold with a base metal pin, which isn't uncommon.
This dates from the early 20th Century and is excellent condition.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand-new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically.
